Save Water this Summer
The Water Resources Board Strategic Plan and the recently adopted State Guide Plan Element Water 2030 recognize the importance of public education and demand management to protecting our water resources and ensuring safe, ample and reliable water supplies. Our challenges and needs vary by region and by type of supply
This year, the Board is continuing to promote best practices for lawn maintenance with the third year of the SLOW THE FLOW campaign. It can be as simple as turning off the sprinklers when it's raining!
The Board is also launching the SAVE WATER THIS SUMMER campaign. This effort is targeted in its first year to users of a specific watershed in Southern Rhode Island. It seeks to increase awareness and appeal to residents and visitors to use less water this summer.
Feel free to JOIN IN. Even small savings can make a big difference during the peak water use season. Can you save a little every day? At the tap (2-4 gallons per minute), toilets (water efficient at 1.28 gallons per flush v. up to 5 gallons per flush for older models), on the lawn (1" a week is all you need). Water is precious; be creative.
